Månsson & Åberg

One is a flute virtuoso and percussionist. His roots are in the deep forests of Medelpad and its folk music tradition. A man who wants to break new ground and explore the limits of his instruments and musical style.

The other is a lutenist and city-dweller. His musical homestead is early music but he also plays Argentine tango and contemporary classical music. A man that is attracted to the instinctive pride in the Swedish folk music and wants to investigate the tradition in depth.

What happens when these musicians meet, seemingly heading in opposite directions?

The answer is Månsson & Åberg, a duo that has made its own place in the nordic folk music scene. Imaginative arrangements of traditional folk tunes are mixed with original music exploring the peripheries of Swedish music. Delicate textures are found next to breathtaking improvisations. The scope of the duos instruments creates surprising and colourful soundscapes.

In recent years they have toured extensively in Sweden as well as travelling to Finland and Ireland. But they have also made other kinds of excursions such as making music and script for the music-theatre happening "Älgmule" at the New Pistol Theatre in Stockholm.
