Tango Libre
When Mikael Jöback and Sven Åberg met they discovered that they shared the same fascination for the argentine tango. Together they began doing their own versions of traditional tango pieces, to start with on a hobby basis. Later they were joined by Jonas Dominique on the bass and the trio played in different venues all around Sweden. Encouraged by the generous response from the circle of Latinamericans in Stockholm they extended the group to the quintet form of today. With this group they toured with the Argentine tango singer Haydée Alba and the Swedish singer Peter Mattei. Their repertoire contains both older and more modern styles of the tango. Sources of inspiration are, among others, the pianist Horacio Salgan, Sexteto Mayor and Astor Piazzolla. Mikael and Sven write most of the music, either as arrangements of traditional tango tunes or as original compositions with that special nordic tango flavour. 1999 their first album was released on the BIS label and received positive response among both critics and listeners. Since then they have been playing at festivals all over the country. In 2001 they did a series of concerts organized by the Stockholm Park Theathre attended by an audience of several thousands. |
